PURPOSE OF THE LGBQ STUDY
Many individuals who are or were affiliated with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) are familiar with the Plan of Salvation. This concept is often challenging for LGBTQ+ individuals as they try to make sense of their core truths about their eternal past and future. The goal of this study is to help us understand the current life experiences of lesbian, gay, bisexual, or queer individuals who are or were affiliated with the LDS Church. In particular, we intend to explore connections between respondents’ understanding of the Plan of Salvation and their level of outness, perceived social support, internalized homophobia, quality of life, and mental health.
The current phase of this study is intended to focus on sexual orientation rather than gender identity in order to gather the unique experiences and understanding of lesbian, gay, bisexual, or queer individuals.
